Cloudflare MX Records
Setting up MX records for your domain in Cloudflare is a crucial step in ensuring reliable email delivery and protecting your domain from email spoofing. By configuring these records properly, you enable seamless routing of emails to your mail server and enhance the security of your communications. Follow the steps below to set up MX records for your domain in Cloudflare.
Add MX records
The setup of email routes can seem challenging. Luckily, changing your DNS records in an organized fashion in Cloudflare allows for successful message delivery from one mail server to another.
To route emails to your mail server, you need to create two DNS records within Cloudflare:
An A or AAAA record for your mail subdomain that points to the IP address of your mail server.
Type | Name | IPv4 Address | Proxy Status |
---|---|---|---|
A | 192.0.2.1 | Proxied |
An MX record that points to that subdomain.
Type | Name | Mail Server | TTL |
---|---|---|---|
MX | @ | mail.example.com | Auto |
Configure Email Security Records
To configure email security records for your domain:
- Navigate to the DNS section within Cloudflare.
- Click Configure under Email Security.
- If your domain sends email, configure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records using the available options.
- If your domain does not send email, use the “Your domain is not used to send email” section to set up restrictive email records.
Configuring email security records is essential to protect your domain from spam and phishing attacks while ensuring the deliverability and authenticity of your email communications.
By correctly setting up your MX and email security records in Cloudflare, you ensure that your emails are delivered securely and reliably. Additionally, you protect your domain from malicious actors attempting to spoof your email addresses, ensuring the integrity of your communications.
