Sometimes you want everyone on a list except a few people. Current customers shouldn't get a "first-time customer" offer, for example. The Build Segments option handles this.
- Set up your campaign and click Send or Schedule.
- In Recipient (To), open Build Segments.
- Add a condition for who should get it, like a Smart List or a tag.
- Click Add more and add a tag condition set to Is Not, then pick the tag you want to leave out.
- Check the contact count. It updates as you add conditions.
- Finish the rest of the campaign and send.
Here's an example. To send to everyone tagged "past customer" except people tagged "active job," you'd use: Tag is past customer AND Tag is not active job.
Two things to know
You can't exclude a Smart List directly. The "is not" option works with tags, contacts, and pre-built segments, but not Smart Lists. If you need to leave out a group, tag them first and exclude the tag.
Segments are built when the email actually sends, not when you set it up. If you schedule an email for Friday, anyone who gets tagged between now and Friday is included or excluded by then.
