Your Business Phone Number: How Texting and Calling Work in Amplify

How your Amplify business number works for texts and calls, why texting waits on carrier approval, and what it costs.

Your Amplify phone number is the line your leads text and call. It's what lets Rapid Responder reply to a missed call in about 30 seconds instead of the next morning.

You don't have to buy or set up this number yourself. We take care of it during your install.

What your number does

  • Texts and calls with your leads and customers, all logged in your inbox
  • The automatic text back when you miss a call
  • Calls from the mobile app show your business number, not your cell
  • Forwarding calls to the phone you actually carry (we set this up for you)

Why texting isn't instant on day one

Every U.S. carrier now makes businesses register before they'll deliver business texts. That's a carrier rule, and it applies to everyone. We submit the registration for you. Your part is making sure your legal business name and EIN match your IRS records exactly.

Everything else in your account keeps working while you wait. Texting from the new number turns on once the carriers approve you. For timing and the most common reasons registrations get kicked back, read How to Get Your Text Messaging Approved.

Already have a business number?

Tell us before your install. We can move (port) it into Amplify. You'll send a recent phone bill, your account PIN, and basic contact info, and we'll help you pull it together. A port takes about 1 to 2 weeks, with around 6 to 12 hours of downtime on port day. Texting on the number may not work until your texting approval comes through. See Keeping Your Existing Business Number.

What it costs

Texting and calls come out of your $20 monthly usage credit, which also covers email sending and Answer Agent conversations. A typical month fits inside it. If you go past it, the extra bills at the rates on our fees page.

If something looks off

Texts aren't going out? Check whether your registration has been approved yet. Until the carriers sign off, texts from the new number won't deliver.

Calls aren't reaching your cell? Send us the number you want them forwarded to and we'll check the setting.
