Keeping Your Existing Business Number: Forward It or Port It

Want to keep the number customers already know? You can forward it to Amplify or move it over for good. Here's how each works.

You don't have to give up the number your customers already know. There are two ways to keep it working with Amplify.

Option 1: Forward it

Your main line forwards calls to your Amplify number. Calls ring you through the LeadConnector app, and the voice AI picks up anything you can't get to.

  • It's quick to set up.
  • It's reversible. Don't like it? Turn the forwarding off.
  • Your number stays with your current provider.

Option 2: Port it

Porting moves the number itself into Amplify, so it lives there for good.

  1. Tell us you want to port. You'll send a recent phone bill, your account PIN, and basic contact info. We'll help you pull it together.
  2. We submit the port request to the HighLevel porting team.
  3. Your current provider (the "losing carrier") has to accept the request.
  4. We keep an eye on it and send you the port date once we have it.

A port takes about 1 to 2 weeks. On port day, expect around 6 to 12 hours when the number may not work.

Which one should I pick?

Forwarding is the fast, low-commitment way to start. Porting is cleaner long term, because the number lives in one place.

FAQ

Will my number stop working during a port?

Usually for part of port day, around 6 to 12 hours. Plan around it. Texting on the number may not work until your texting approval comes through.

Can I text from a forwarded number?

Calls, yes. Texts, no. Texts sent to your original number stay with your old provider and don't reach Amplify. If texting from your known number matters, porting is the way to go.

Can I move my number back out later?

Yes. Porting out works like porting in. We coordinate it with you and your new provider. See How to Cancel Amplify and Take Your Contacts With You.
